Forget burnout, boreout is the new office disease - Times Online → timesonline.co.uk

“Many workers are so ill at ease in the office that they spend a large part of the day simulating work. That generates more negative stress than excessive working. The result is serious but hidden depression in the office.”

Year in Review: Lifehacks, lifehack.org, and Your Changing Life - Lifehack.org → lifehack.org

“…unsatisfied by the empty promises and soggy new age platitudes of mainstream self-help literature, life hacking has opened up a new field in personal development, one that is relevant to the way we work, play, and relate to each other.”

“Still, today, many people prefer to evoke a sexy screen persona to mask their drab, real world identity — or conversely, adopt a bland handle to hide a well-known public reputation. Sometimes screen names are not about hiding behind a digital front, but rather a way of intentionally building mysterious (and possibly profitable) personas. Whatever their rationale, the time has come for the bloggerati and blog-respondents to drop the façade of inscrutability and to be accountable for their words. If the ideas in a posted comment are valuable, why not own up to them as an author? Doesn’t a real name next to a comment somehow increase its credibility? Further, signing with real names and addresses will also force more circumspection by lessening the more reckless and harsh posts.” —What’s In A Name?

“

“Guitar Hero has become a mass-market entertainment phenomenon.”

Guitar Hero III has sold about $300 million since its release and could generate $600 million by year’s end, says Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter. In comparison, the year’s top movie, Spider-Man 3, grossed about $337 million, and the top concert tour, the Police reunion, $212 million. Past Guitar Hero games, still selling well, may account for $300 million more. And Rock Band will likely sell about $200 million worth.
